- loves Minecraft and wants to play it every waking moment. As soon as he wakes up in the morning he starts whining to play. If there is any moment in the day where he isn't mentally stimulated, he decides he wants to play.
- has had a big, consistent appetite. Eats a lot for breakfast and lunch (and snacks) and typically will only eat a big dinner if he got distracted from food throughout the day.
- counted rote to 200. We worked on counting to 100 while in car line waiting to pick Blake up in the afternoons from school. We were in the car one day and it finally clicked that you just say 100 before each of the numbers while counting to 200, and I bet he could count higher but just hasn't tried.
- loves to give "huggies". If he makes someone upset, his default is to ask for a huggie (hug) which is his way of trying to apologize I think. He has a lot of sweet moments where he'll just ask for them anyway too.
- has been loving making Perler bead creations that are Minecraft themed. I got him a book of "Beadcraft" ideas so they could make Minecraft items as an activity at his birthday party. Needless to say, we ran out of time because we had way too many things planned for the party, but Blake and Brett have spent hours making tons of different Minecraft potions, tools, and weapons.
- is still obsessed with Minecraft. Once he runs out of things to do, he immediately proclaims that he is bored and he needs to watch Unspeakable (a YouTube gamer who posts a ton of videos of himself playing online) play Minecraft on YouTube.
- chose "Save the Bees" as his opinion topic in school. He got so into it, he came home with a huge poster of all the reasons why it is important to save them. He also had flags, and tons of blank nametags that he intended on handing out to anyone he could gain support from. It is so fun to see him be passionate about things.
- scored in the 99% on his MAP testing. All the first graders were tested at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year. Just like all the tests he has taken, he scored in the 99th percentile. His lexile reading range was estimated to be 1030-1180 which is an 8th grade reading level.
- had a couple different pieces of art in the district art show. He had a piece of pottery (a snowflake textured plate) and a painting with poinsettias. We were so proud that he was chosen as one of the select few out of his whole grade of more than 600 first graders.
- decided he likes reading, but only if it is about his true passion, Minecraft. We've borrowed all the books from the library that have any info on the topic.
- lost another tooth. He now has both top middle teeth gone, and only one of the bottom middle ones are left.
- started playing his first computer game, Dungeon Defenders.
