September and October {2018}

This month Brett:
  • has had a much bigger appetite. He wants a full meal for 3 meals a day, and sometimes he snacks throughout the day as well. Hopefully he'll start growing more soon.
  • loves school so much. Every day when I pick him up and ask how school was, he says it was GREAT. He goes to lunch bunch 2 times a week and he really enjoys getting to see friends that were in his class last year, but are in a different class this year. He loves playing with friends and always asks if he can have them over for "playdates".
  • builds lots of weapons out of K'nex and straw builders. He likes to build giant guns, bazookas, and anything else he can come up with from Clash of Clans. He tries desperately to get Blake's attention to help him defeat the "enemies that are attacking their base".
This month Blake:
  • has learned how to spell a lot of words at school so far. They have a list of 25 words that they bring home and have to work on 5 for each day of the week. At random times, they'll get the opportunity to take a spelling test at school. If they get 5 or less wrong, then they get to move to the next list. Right now Blake is on list 6 which is the last required one for his 1st grade class I think, but there are a lot more available. It is really cool to watch his spelling progress with the writing work he brings home. It's also nice to not have him asking how to spell every single word when he sits down to write something.
  • loves watching the "sneak attack squad" on YouTube. They are a family with two young boys that have almost every nerf gun available, and they act out lots of nerf gun battles. Sometimes they're just pranks on their parents or aunt, but now they want all the toys that these boys have.
  • is obsessed with everything Nerf guns. He wants to collect all of them and has already started adding them to his Christmas list.
We have decided that we want to start getting back into travelling more, so we took a family trip up to Cleveland, OH because the boys had been asking about going to the beach and collecting shells. We visited the Great Lakes Science Center (because children's museums seem to be a good place to visit when we make trips) and it was really fun! There were even a few things that Chris and I found interesting. We did go to Edgewater Beach but the weather was really overcast and foggy. They boys had a great time playing in the sand and we did bring home a handful of shells. Overall it was a good weekend getaway, and hopefully we'll keep finding new places to visit.

Pics:
Harvesting sunflower seeds.

Our little artists hard at work.

Blake make himself an extra large paper by taping 4 pieces together. I love that he has moved on from abstract art to landscapes.

Our carrot crop this year. They got much bigger this time, but I don't think we'll bother with them next year since no one really wants to eat them.

These were the biggest of the lot.

The last of our cherry tomatoes. They're so pretty.

Our festive front door makes me so happy!

Our tradition of pumpkin painting continues. It's fun to see how they do it differently each year.

And the finished products.

I set the bar high for pumpkin carving this year. I tried some new things and they turned out way better than I thought they would! Chris chose this super cool witch scene, that ended up being my favorite.

I wanted a scary tree in the graveyard scene.

Blake picked a random Dory pic that he found online.

Brett wanted a Captain America shield.

Iron Man and a cheetah

This is how Brett wanted to wear his ears.
