The Harvey Family: June and July {2018}

This month Brett:

loves MathSeeds and building his treehouse. We got a 5 week free trial to ReadingEggs and the boys both wanted to just do the math section called MathSeeds. You take a placement test at the beginning to figure out where to start you, and Brett loved the lessons that were just at his level. We had a bit of trouble getting it to show up right and just work in general on the Kindle. Having the touch screen was really helpful for his lessons but it just kept freezing and rarely worked perfectly. Once he finally passed enough levels, he added up enough acorns to go to the shop and buy stuff to decorate his virtual treehouse. He had such a great time! I think we lost interest when it became impossible to get the app to work at one point.
still loves stuffed animals and always begs for them at the store. He is definitely a stuffed animal collector (hoarder) and he is always drawn to the pink/red/orange ones that we pass in the store. Since he has some money leftover from his birthday, a lot of times he convinces me that is what he wants to spend his money on.
always begs for candy. He is a sugar monster of the worst kind. If his mind isn't on anything else, he goes straight to begging for candy. Whether we're in the car, at the store, or at home, he always seems to have his mind on it if he is done thinking about whatever the current thought is.
wanted to have his own Clash of Clans and Boom Beach accounts on Daddy's phone. Since Blake has been playing these games on the shared "game phone", Brett doesn't get to play the same games since you can only have one account per device. So Brett gets to have his accounts set up on Chris's phone. There is a lot of asking "When is Daddy getting hoooome?" during the day, and as soon as he gets home "Daddy, can I play on your phone?"
loves building things with Legos. His favorite thing to build are all kinds of little airplanes. He always adds a "shooter" as a finishing touch. Some are really tiny, and some are bigger and quite creative!

This month Blake:

was obsessed with MathSeeds for a few days. He took the placement test at the beginning and they put him in 3rd grade math. He was doing a lot of multiplying so I printed him out a multiplication table and before bed he said it "changed my life!" and then once he woke up the next morning, he never wanted to use MathSeeds again. It's probably ok since he was already so far ahead.
can tell analog time. I think MathSeeds actually helped with this quite a bit, and gave him practice with this. He has the hang of it now and he actually understands different times of the day and has a good grasp of how long things take and how much time has passed, which is impressive for a 6 year old.
finished his baseball season and was super excited to get a trophy. I'm not actually sure what their record was or if they even really kept score during their tee-ball season, but Blake thought his trophy was the coolest thing ever. He thought it was made out of gold and it was his prized possession until we broke the news that it wasn't. It is now a paperweight that holds up his spirit sticks from last year.
helped me with packing up our stuff to move. He was excited to be involved and help with the moving process for a bit. Then he decided it was too much work and left me to it.
couldn't stop talking about building a robot to mine for gold. He even went so far as to design it and add notes to his "blueprints". He had a whole plan to buy land in Africa for his pick-ax wielding robots to make him a billionaire. I think there was also a skyscraper involved that would house the gold and security cameras to keep it safe.
clash of clans. This has become his most long lasting game interest to date. We figured he would get sick of waiting for this to "build" or "upgrade" or any of the other countless things you have to wait for, but he has proven us wrong. Once it is time to wait for something to happen, he just watches some YouTube videos that have been posted by really experienced players to pass the time and learn other tips and tricks.
most noteworthy quote: "my job is to create legendary moments." I'm not even sure how he came up with this. My jaw just hit the floor and I had to write it down.
can't stop dropping things. Most of the time it is the Roku remote. For the life of him, he can't hold it in his hand or put it on the table without dropping it, sometimes repeatedly. At some point he is going to drop it and it will break and maybe he'll understand our frustration.
