Brett decided that he wanted to have another superhero themed birthday party. This year we made custom capes for each of the kids with the first letter of their name. Everyone picked their favorite color and I took t-shirts and designed a superhero logo that was ironed onto each cape. They seemed much more comfortable than the kind that velcro around your neck, like we had last year.
The weather was not as cooperative this year unfortunately. There had been a ton of rain in the forecast and this day was no exception. It was a light rain most of the morning before the party but luckily, it let up enough to do a couple of the games outside. The grass was wet and it was warm and steamy out, but we made it work! Brett invited 3 kids from his preschool class this year and they all had such a great time.
And then from the back. I'm just so happy with how adorable they turned out!
The capes were hung by the front door as we waited for our guests to arrive.
Brett still loves the color red (as you can imagine from his cape color choice) so if there was something that needed a color to be chosen, it was going to be red.
We had superhero decorations everywhere and Brett was in heaven now that he knows just about every single DC and Marvel superhero and villain.

Then we had our list of superhero games. Since we had done this before, the boys were very good at helping me decide which game to do next once everyone was tired of the previous one. They decided to do some of the same games as last year because they were really fun, and then we came up with a couple new ones too. The Flash Dash didn't work out very well this time so I didn't even get any pictures of it, and we ran out of time for the Spiderman Web Toss and ended up using the back of the board for a superhero floor puzzle instead.
The first activity we had set up was decorate your own mask so that the kids could work on this while we waited for everyone else to arrive. There were 4 different colors of foam masks and we had a bunch of different colors of glitter glue, sequin shapes, and foam shapes to glue on. I think the girls may have enjoyed this more than the boys. Of course I got so carried away with the rest of the party that I forgot to get a picture of them all on the drying table. Of course, the masks and capes went home with each guest!
Arch Enemy Knockdown
I used some old vegetable cans and wrapped them with pictures of super villains (that the boys helped me choose) and we set them up so the nerf guns could be fired at them. I think solo cups or something more lightweight would've been a better choice (and easier to knock over) but everyone really seemed to enjoy it.
Villain Tie-Up
This one was from last year but was a hit and kept the kids busy for a good while. We had a bunch of different colors of streamers and everyone got to choose their color and wrap their "super villain" with as much as they wanted. Then the villains had their chance to try to break free at the end.
Flash Dash
This wasn't well planned out and ended up being a mess but everyone got a quick run at least.
Batman Bomb Diffuse
This was one of the boys' favorite games from last year. It takes the longest to set up, but it is kind of like a personal pinata. I filled up 5 trash bags full of black balloons and each kid got 6 to pop (or bombs to diffuse) and inside each one is a treat or goodie. I made the mistake of putting some of those sticky wrecking balls in some of them and they wouldn't separate from the balloon itself, oops. I was glad we were able to go out in the grass for this one because it makes it a lot easier to pop the balloons that way.
Kryptonite Pick Up
Last year we tried to do this as a relay with grabbers and a few of the kids had trouble with them, so this year we opted for shovels and rakes and everyone split into 2 teams and got to go at the same time. It seemed to work a lot better, but it also went really fast, haha. I convinced them to switch up the teams and go for round 2 since it lasted all of 1 minute. Instead of generic buckets, I made special "Kryptonite Containment Units" for the kryptonite balls to be deposited in.
After that, it was time to come in for lunch and then we had cake. I was actually really excited when Brett said he wanted his cake to be decorated like a Captain America shield because it was so much fun decorating! I just love how it turned out, and man was it tasty.
Brett had originally told me he wanted to line up his candles in a straight line to make them easier to blow out, but he made a game time decision to make his own random pattern instead. Mr. Opinionated wasn't about to just let me put them on the cake myself...
Aquaman Water Targets
After cake, we went back out for our last couple games. We saved the wet ones for last, and we had a couple very wet kiddos. Last year the targets we had didn't stay up for longer than 1/2 a second so we decided to have some hanging targets this year that didn't require anyone to set them back up.
Then we had a few random other toys that ended up in makeshift games.
After getting all wet, we almost forgot about presents! Everyone dug into their goody bags and brought some sugar to watch Brett open his gifts.
