This month Brett:
- has had a couple sayings that he uses a lot, "In my mind" (he realizes that he thinks about things in his head) and "Thanks big bro" (when talking to Blake - I have no idea where this came from but it's hilarious).
- pretends to be a puppy or dinosaur. He has an imaginary knob on his belly that he turns when he wants to switch between "Brett mode", "dog mode", "cat mode", and even "dinosaur mode" (a lot of ROARing). He decided he wanted to be called "Prince" when he's in dog mode and Blake seems to like taking care of his puppy. Prince walks around on all 4s, says woof a lot, and likes to eat and drink without hands.
- instead of getting timeout for a punishment, he has toys taken out of his stash. Timeouts just don't seem to motivate him to act right so we've discovered how important his stash of random toys is to him. When we threaten to take them from him he straightens up (most of the time). We were talking to a friend about a book he read and how different things are more important to different people (The 5 Love Languages) and we realized that Brett doesn't care to be stuck in timeout but he hates losing possession of things in his collection so this was a great concept.
- has been doing really well with going potty on his own. He has gotten a lot more experience pulling his pants up and down on his own so hopefully he'll be ready for preschool the end of next month. The main thing we're worried about is how many changes of clothes to pack for him in his school bag since he rarely wants to stop playing to actually go use the bathroom. Hopefully they'll remind the children enough and he'll do well.
This month Blake:
- got allergy tested again to find out if he still has a peanut allergy. After talking to our new allergist we decided to test him for a couple items that he wasn't tested for last time which included brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, pecans, pine nuts, walnuts, sesame, and cod (white fish) and he tested negative for each of those. Unfortunately, he tested positive for peanuts again, but I guess that just means he'll continue with the path that he's already on which includes carrying his epi-pen and being cautious about all foods and questioning everything and everyone that might have peanuts on their hands. It'll be scary sending him to all-day school with an allergy like this but hopefully the teachers are becoming more familiar with it and he continues to be vigilant.
- is really excited about starting soccer next month. He'll be practicing 2 times a week and have a game each Saturday morning. This will be his first organized sport so hopefully he does ok taking instructions from someone other than Chris and myself. He picked out a soccer ball and will have a whole outfit and he is just so excited!
- took an art camp at Michaels and had a great time. The theme was safari animals and the boys both got to use watercolors to paint a canvas of a character from the Lion Guard, but got another one to take home. Then they decorated puppets/stick figures of safari animals as well. Then as a bonus, they learned a new technique which started with a glue design, then pour salt over it, and then go straight to painting (dabbing) the salt with watercolors. The end result was so cool that we had to get supplies to make more at home.
- says, "to be exact" all the time. He really does like to describe things in as much detail as possible.
- loves watching Dude Perfect videos on YouTube. They use family friendly language and do lots of sports and trick shots so the boys love it.
- loves looking at our new map and deciding on places he wants to visit. He wants to visit every state, probably because they look so close together on a little map. Right now the top on his list are the 4 corners (where Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico meet), Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, New York City, Wisconsin (to learn how to make cheese?), and Washington state.

After moving to our next spot, reality was setting in that we weren't going to catch anything.
Brett was hot and tired and hungry so we found him a spot to sit and wait for everyone else to finish up.

Cherry tomato plant

The peppers have looked exactly like this all month. I'm not sure these 3 peppers will ever mature.
This cucumber plant has been growing like a weed!
The way the leaves and "arms" grow is so cool! Brett likes to take arms from different vines and tie them together.

Blake's new dream catcher. It has wishes written on some of the beads as well as it's ability to capture bad dreams.
He helped decorate it and make it so pretty! I had a few of these over my bed when I was younger too. =)
