On the plus side, I've only got 3 pounds left to reach my pre-pregnancy weight so I can fit into most of my old clothes now! I guess it's normal but my weight varies 3 pounds or so during the day and it also depends if Brett has eaten recently. This is actually how much I weighed before I got pregnant with Blake so that makes me pretty happy. =)
This month Brett:
- has started drooling. I guess his salivary glands are gearing up for real food. He's going to need to start wearing bibs soon I have a feeling. He's been pretty good about not spitting up much so far so we haven't had him wear them much up to this point.
- started sleeping a little longer for his first stretch at night near the beginning of the month. He would go a good 6 hours without food, and will sleep for most of this as long as his tummy isn't upset. His sleep over the whole month has been all over the place as far as length of sleep and how many times he wakes up. We tried him in the crib a couple times and it was a complete failure. He's even started not liking the rock n play recently either. He basically will only sleep in the swing at night or next to me in the bed as he uses my arm as a pillow. It's not the greatest sleep but we're starting to get a little longer stretches at night again. He's stuck at 6 hours or so being the longest he can go without food. Hopefully he'll get rid of his arm jerk reflex soon and we'll be able to put him in his crib and get him to sleep longer stretches by himself.
- has done really well with tummy time. He is really strong and can hold his head and chest up off the floor for a while. He prefers to watch his brother and that keeps him more entertained than any toy I can try and distract him with.
- almost laughed and smiled at his brother. He lights up when his brother is around and if he leaves the room, Brett fusses and wants to follow him.
- started taking shorter naps. I'm not sure if this was just temporary when he started having tummy troubles earlier in the week or if he's just getting more excited about being awake. Recently he hasn't wanted to take naps unless someone is holding him which is really rough for productivity.
- has earned the nickname monkey. He's quite the chunky monkey and has rolls in his thighs and arms so he's quite the full figured baby, haha.
- was a happy smiley baby once we got all the soy cleared out of his system. When he's feeling good he'll smile almost anytime you make eye contact with him (and he's fed and has a dry diaper of course - he hates having any wetness in his diaper).
- got pretty good control of his neck and can hold his head up most of the time with only a little wobble here and there.
- switched to medium flow nipples for his bottles. He was getting annoyed with the slow flow and wasn't eating as much so we decided to move up. He gets a lot more food faster but he's able to handle it now.
- has gotten a lot of ab strength. He can do a crunch if he's slightly leaning backward but this hasn't been good for his spitting up since crunching his tummy forces milk back up.
- has started putting everything in his mouth. He has discovered his hands and wants them in his mouth a lot as well as wanting everything else in there. He'll see something he wants to put in his mouth and he'll stare it down and put his hands in there and try and lean forward for it.
- decided he is over the swaddle. As part of his before bed protest he decided he hates being in the swaddle now and we transitioned him to one arm out and then after a few more days let him have both hands out. Hopefully having his hands to suck on will help him start to self sooth eventually.
- is now in 9 month clothes mostly and some 12 month clothes. He weighs about 15 lb according to our home scale, although it varies daily. He's been in size 2 diapers since the beginning of the month but since his thighs are so big we're about to move into size 3 once this last box of size 2s are gone.
This month Blake:
- loves Sunbutter and jelly sandwiches and eats at least one a day. Sometimes he'll want them for all 3 meals. His appetite has been growing and sometimes he'll eat 2 for a meal. He also wants to eat them cut into 4 big squares as opposed to the small bite sized pieces he used to request. He's finally taking bites of a bigger sandwich like a big kid, woohoo!
- has been sensitive to Brett crying. He'll either want to go be quiet in a far corner of the house or more commonly get into trouble so he'll get the attention instead of Brett. He sees how the crying baby gets the attention and sometimes he'll even start his own fussing in the same tone to see if it helps his chances of getting everyone's attention.
- finally drinks apple juice (starting last month). This has been nice since we go through a lot of it and it is much cheaper than the pear juice that he had been hooked on for a while.
- says hilarious things: (While doing log rolls Mimi asks him if he's a log) "No, I'm just a boy.", "I'm gonna measure baby Brett (with a measuring tape), he's half a pound.", (He climbed up into a chair I was sitting on while holding Brett and I asked him how many people were sitting in the chair) "2, baby Brett is a baby, not a person. He not can sleep, that's what older mans do."
- likes his breaded chicken cooked in bacon geese (grease). I started saving bacon grease since we eat a lot of it since it is really tasty to cook chicken in it afterward, and Blake seems to love it as well.
- talks matter of factly with his pointer fingers in the air.
- loves matchbox cars and hot wheels. We went over to a friend's house and their little boy had a ton of little cars and trucks and that got Blake obsessed with them. He wants a new "race car" every time we go to the store now.
- says he's half a pound when he gets on the scale. I'm not sure where he heard that but he'll stand on the scale and I'll ask him how much he weighs (he can read me the numbers) but he'll always say "half a pound" and laugh.
- knows his left and right feet and hands. He's better at left and right than I am but he won't let me get a video of him showing me his left and right feet.
- says "not today" all the time when he doesn't want to do something. For example, I'll say Blake it's time to brush your teeth before bed, and he'll say "not today".
- likes his bedtime stories to be red without the right words. Blake has the same 3 books he likes to read before his nap and before bed and night and Daddy thought it would be funny to use the wrong words in a couple spots in the stories and see if he'd notice. Now it's become a game and Daddy will mess up 3 words in each book and then Blake has to recall which words were messed up once they're done. He loves it.
- is still afraid of loud noises. If he hears something outside while he's sleeping it'll wake him up and make him cry. He also wants to avoid lawn mowers and weed eaters at all costs.
- adds these words and phrases onto a lot of his sentences: kinda like, anything, everything, and something like that.
- says that everything is his "favorite" thing. I want to play with this or eat this because it's my favorite one!
Really getting into the gymini lately.
Focusing hard.
Making flirty eyes with the giraffe.
Blake likes to be "trapped" by pillows. He loves playing with pillows whether it's having them stacked on him or rolling off the couch onto them.
Starting to like his bouncy seat and the hanging animals.
Well hello cute boy!
The summer here is gross so we've had to find some new indoor activities. This was Blake's first time painting with a brush. He's deep in concentration (the tongue gives him away).
He ended up going through the paper since he pushed so hard.
Brett doing tummy time while watching his big brother. Luckily Blake threw his toy away from his little brother...
Brett was entertained none the less. He can't get enough of his big brother and wants to be near him all the time when he's awake.
Hmmm... what's going on over there and can I put it in my mouth?
Blake working hard with his spiral art toy from TeeTee.
Grab the nearest laundry basket, it's story time!
Mr. Camera Shy finally ordered me to take his picture.
Blackmail fodder. I'm sure the pictures will get better as Brett gets a little more head support.
The underwater PlayDoh set was a big hit (thanks Susie!) and Blake's favorite tools are the "pizza cutter" and the lobster scissors.
More excitement on the gymini.
This is Brett's super concentration face.
Still eyeing that jingly toy.
He really is such a happy baby now! (When he's fed and rested.)
The rolling off the couch game. This has been Blake's favorite game lately. It's a way to use up energy while stuck inside since it's either been in the 90s and super humid out, or rainy.
Starting to grab objects and hold onto them. Who's got the keys to my Beamer?
This is how I'm able to eat breakfast in the morning.Thank you for all that you do Mimi!
Nearing the end of tummy time I decided to grab some pics. When he started he was able to lift his chest up.
Mr. Smiley.
We had 3 days of straight rain so instead of staying cooped up inside we decided to go out and play with chalk. It was a hit!
Such a cutie.
Me and my littlest man. He's getting so strong and can hold his head up pretty well.
A track for the new race car obsession.
Playing dress up... with a dress... clearly we need more boy items in the dress up bin.
Wearing his toga as we transitioned him from the swaddle to one arm out to both arms out.
Checking himself out in the mirror.
Without all his chins he's a pretty cute baby. He's checking out what his brother is up to over there.
Blake is so entertaining to watch. We sometimes refer to him as The Entertainer.
This sometimes allows me to get a couple things done around the house. He's not really into baby carrying though.
Blake riding with his teddies.
He wants everything to go in the mouth.
Videos:
Brett flirting with the fan.
Blake rolling down the couch cushions.
Blake talking about the stuff in his toy bin.
Tummy time with Brett.
