The Harvey Family: Blake

Blake:

got his first boo boo requiring a bandaid. He has been super worried about it since he got it. It was on the side of his right thumb and he basically assumed his entire right hand was useless. Every time he woke up from a nap or in the morning he'd look at it to make sure the little red dot was still there and ball his hand into a fist and proceed to keep it that way for as long as possible.
is obsessed with the tv show Super Why. He watches it on his Kindle while he eats and I think he is learning some good lessons and a lot about reading from it. He's even started responding when they ask what sounds different letters make and he knows how to read the words "stop" and "go" now.
has been on a growth spurt finally. For the past 4-6 months he hasn't really had much of an appetite and he hasn't grown taller or gained any weight really. Now he is eating and sleeping a ton and both his height and weight are going up which is a relief. It used to be a good thing to get him to eat one good meal a day. Now he eats at least 2 good meals a day plus snacks and his liquid intake has gone up too. He has also started sleeping a more consistent 12 hours at night and his naps are closer to 2-3 hours.
has been battling constipation issues. Sadly with the higher food intake comes digestive issues for Blake. He has been eating so much more meat and high protein foods but hasn't been interested in fruit or veggies other than his banana/blueberry puree pouch (which probably adds to the constipation).
has a possible wheat allergy. It is the only thing that has cleared out his system in the past few weeks but sadly it lead to diarrhea and a major eczema outbreak. The last 2 foods that have had this effect were whole wheat graham crackers and Kashi (cinnamon harvest - the cereal Chris and I eat for breakfast almost every day) so it seems like whole wheat might be an issue with him. He eats some cookies that have wheat flour as the main ingredient and they don't seem to have as dramatic an effect on his system so we'll have to keep that in mind.
has picked up an incredible understanding of concepts and words for his age. Chris was working on his laptop in the bedroom one morning and Blake got his big sad lower lip out and said "Daddy no love me, he not play with me." I mean, this was totally out of the blue and I know it broke Chris's heart to hear... but how does this child come up with these things?
is learning to stand up for himself around other kids. He has always been the gentle soul that moves out of the way if someone is coming toward him on the slide or playground or anywhere really. Other kids will bump into him or push him out of the way and it used to make him cry, but now he's starting to hold his ground and even tell them "no push me" or "no, this my toy" or verbalize what he wants. I doubt they will listen but I'm guessing most of them understand him, so it's a start.
has an incredible memory. I took him over to my doctor's visit which is right next to the hospital and was explaining to him about the hospital and how this is where people come when they're sick or need help and the doctors help them get better. I also said this is where I'd be coming when it's time for the baby to come out of my belly and my doctor would help me get the baby out. As soon as he saw Chris that night, he started telling him "Mommy go to hospital to get baby out of belly and doctor help her." It just goes to show that you have to watch every word around him because he doesn't forget a thing.
likes playing Easter Egg hunt in the house with the eggs he got from his outside Easter Egg hunt. We have to keep it fairly easy or he loses interest if he has to look too hard. I'm hoping we can work our way up to more challenging searches. He only got 6 eggs and I tossed out all the candy, but he has gotten a lot of entertainment from those eggs.
likes to walk around us in circles. I'm not sure if this is a normal kid thing or not but he walks around me or the couch or Chris or toys and just makes circles around us and says "me walk around and around and around."

There was a crazy wind storm and then thunderstorm right after the hunt so we opened eggs when we got home instead.

And the balled up fist that lasted for weeks. He'd just hold it like this even while trying to use the hand. Watching him try and climb up the ladder at MyGym was pretty hilarious I must say.
