The Harvey Family: Blake

I can't believe we're in the last month of Blake's first year. Not because it's gone by so fast (even though most people seem to think that the first year flies by) but because this has been the longest year of our life. This year has brought many incredible and joyful moments but it has also been the most stressful year we've ever gone through (with trying to solve all the little health issues poor Blake has had). We're so grateful for all the happiness he has brought us and it's funny what you find yourself laughing at (like hearing Blake's "pooping grunt" and running around the corner and slipping/falling only to find out that he threw up while pooping on all fours and was about to crawl though it - sometimes you gotta just laugh). I'll save all the gushy stuff for another post but just thought I'd take a quick minute to reflect on how crazy it is that Blake is almost a year old.

This week, Blake:

is capable of putting things back INTO his toy bins, hooray! Maybe he watched me do it enough times that he decided to try it himself. Whatever the case, I'm glad he no longer has the compulsion to completely empty the bins constantly. He even puts toys into the bins on a regular basis now.
he has learned how to push the buttons on his toys. He knows that Mommy and Daddy have a song on one of his tables that we just laugh when it plays so he will push the button to start the song and then look at us and smile and wait for us to laugh. He is a pretty funny boy. I just can't wait to hear what he has to say, especially when he's so funny even without words.
loves opening and closing the kitchen cabinets. We baby proofed one side of the kitchen since it had things in it like knives and cleaning products, but left the other side for now. He figured out how they open and will open and close them over and over. He'll do it for 30 minutes straight if I let him. After 2 days of that he game he finally got curious enough to check out what was inside the cabinets. See the video below for a few minutes of the cabinet game.
started saying "all done" except he says "alllllllll dih" and will just repeat it over and over and say it randomly. He kept repeating it while crawling down the hallway and I thought he was just saying sounds, but then realized he was actually trying to say something that I say to him all the time.
caught his first cold. Poor baby was so snotty and had trouble breathing to sleep if he wasn't upright. It took a few days to come on strong and then he had snot running down his face for a couple days. He even had fluid leaking out of his eyes. Never ran a temperature though (according to his rectal thermometer) but sure felt warm in the mornings. He slept with Mommy and Daddy for a few nights and no one got much sleep.
was doing a lot of throwing his head around. He likes to snuggle with me but it's at random times when I'm not expecting it and he'll just lunge at me and basically go limp and try and rest his head on my chest or something. A couple times he missed and just jacked me in the tooth or jaw with his big ol' head. Maybe all the fluid in his head from the cold was making him feel a little less coordinated.
