- tried his first green food, avocados. He gave them his standard "this tastes strange" face but continued to open his mouth and stick out his tongue for more. He seems to whine the whole time he's eating... maybe because we just can't shovel it in fast enough.
- smiled at Daddy pretty much every time he saw him. He just lights up as soon as Daddy walks into the room.
- showed me he was hungry by giving me a hug (grabbing my tank top straps) and kiss (trying to eat either my chin or nose)... whichever is easier to get him mouth around at the time. We're really looking forward to the day when we can properly communicate!
- also tried carrots and applesauce. He does seem to prefer the sweet fruits but he just whines/moans the whole time he's eating any solid food. We've been feeding him in his bumbo seat but his thighs are really big and it's hard to get him in and he gets stuck on the way out so we're working on finding him a real high chair.
- made it clear that he has separation anxiety. We thought it was other things but it does seem to be separation that makes him start balling his eyes out. At night when we go to put him in his crib, if he's not dead asleep, he'll realize what is going on and start crying as soon as you start to set him down and remove your hands. If he's asleep though this process it only takes an hour or 2 before he realizes that he's alone and starts screaming. As soon as he gets picked up he's quiet as a mouse (except for being stuffy from all the dramatics). We thought he was allergic to something (most likely dust mites) since when we'd go grab him out of the crib his nose was all stuffed, but now it seems to just be caused from the crying. I slept with him next to me on Wednesday night on the couch, and I know there are a TON of dust mites on that old couch. He seemed quite comfy all night and only started to fuss a couple times. Once he realized I was there he settled right back down. Any other parents out there have this issue? And did it go away in a reasonable amount of time? We don't want to have to bring him into bed with Mommy and Daddy but we need to get some sleep! After a few more nights of dealing with sleep issues we think he might have a skin infection that is causing him discomfort. We gave him Tylenol before bed one night to help with it and he slept perfectly... so up to this point it seems to be pain related. Just another experiment we'll need to continue with.
- went to the doctor for his 6 month checkup and did really well. He weighed in at 19lb 3oz (with a wet diaper) and measured a little over 27" long. The doctor undid his diaper to check his hips and, even though she knew it would happen, got peed on. He even did really well with his vaccines. The nurse did his oral one slow enough that he didn't choke this time, and his first shot didn't even phase him. The second one clearly hurt him a bit but he only fussed for a few seconds then after I picked him up, was totally fine. Such a tough boy!
Week 28 Pics:
Working on sitting on his own.
He fell over but at least he's getting closer to catching himself with his arms.
Standing by myself (of course Mommy has to be ready to catch me at any moment).
Blake loves seeing himself in mirrors. I snuck up behind him and caught this, haha.
More sitting, and for longer stretches.
Hanging out in Mommy's car before going into the store.
Skyping with Grandpa Joel.
Video:
Mimi feeding Blake some fruit.
I'm not sure how to rotate this one.
