Blake's Mimi has been coming during the days to watch him and it is really nice to be able to have a family member watch him. It was incredibly hard to leave my baby at home this week but it's more comforting knowing we don't have to leave him with a complete stranger just yet. His great Grandmom came down to meet him too.
We finally got a scale for the house so we can have somewhat of an idea what he weighs since we're worried about his lower food intake lately. It is accurate to 0.2 of a lb (around 3.25oz). We just weighed him and he appears to be somewhere between 12 lb and 12.2 lb which means he's at least going in the right direction weight wise.
This week, Blake:
- has really shown us how much he likes music. In the evenings he will be fussy but calms down most of the time if we turn on music and dance for/with him. He is much more content during playtime if we have it on as well. I tried to sing to him a lot while I was pregnant but didn't really stick to the nursery rhymes. He does seem to prefer music with words as opposed to just instrumental.
- has started to smile a lot more. He just seems like he is starting to act more like a 2 month old with a lot more smiling after his naps. He is cooing a little bit more too. It will be so great to hear his first laugh.
- transitioned from his bassinet (the Pack 'n Play in the dining room) to his crib in the nursery. He doesn't seem to sleep as long in the nursery. It could be that he hasn't been eating a full meal before bed though. He doesn't sleep as well when he's cold either so we have to keep the door open to keep it a little warmer. We also have finally been able to put the baby monitor to use. It's nice to not have him sleeping in the main living area since it is so difficult to not make noise in any of the main rooms once he's asleep.
- had trouble concentrating on eating in the evenings. Whether he's taking a bottle or breastfeeding, his little body decides it's time to work food out the other end at the same time and he just squirms so much he can barely eat.
- sneezed a lot. He has always sneezed a lot so maybe we need to vacuum more...?
- has been mouthing a lot more, especially on the burp cloth when you try to burp him on your shoulder. Then he works his way down and mouths on our shirt or arm. It's tough to not think he's hungry because this used to be his way of showing us hunger.
- has been doing better with tummy time thanks to daddy's new technique which is on your chest with a twist as opposed to on the floor or couch. We basically lean all the way back until we're lying down but hold his head a few inches away from our chest and he holds it there for a bit. It also helps if you put his chest on ours so his naturally is at a decline, so that even making his straight requires lifting. He still doesn't like to lift it if he starts from the horizontal position.
- likes his gymini more now that he's actually started focusing on some of the hanging toys. He'll even keep himself occupied for a decent while (as long as music is playing). He just seems more intrigued by things nowadays.
- Doesn't seem to want to take a silicone nipple on his bottle. We've been using the same latex one since he was born and it started wearing out so it was time to replace the nipple. We decided to try the silicone one but he wanted nothing to do with it, so we got more latex ones and he's ok with them. For parents that say their babies won't take a bottle, I wonder if this could be the problem? The latex kind feels like it is much closer to breastfeeding.
Week 10 Pics:
Blake's first nap in his crib. When Blake is in his Miracle Blanket, that means he had a crazy fit before hand that required special measures.
Four generations of Chris's family together.
Gymini time. Blake likes to spend a lot more time here lately. He is finally starting to focus on the toys instead of all the lights and random furniture.
This was such a cute face. It was sad that the giraffe's feet blocked it a little.
Probably in the middle of a arms swinging fit.
A few family photos while Michael, Maggie, and Tristan were in town. Tristan has the cutest smiles!
I asked if Blake's outfit was too pink looking and was reassured that it was Salmon... I'm thinking I should've changed him. There's always next time. =)
Some tummy time on Mommy. He surprised us and is holding his head up much more!
Having fun on the gymini.
