- dances in circles while singing made up songs. If I'm sitting in the middle of a room, he likes to walk in circles around me and sing songs really loudly. His favorite songs right now are "Ding, dong" and the poop song that he made up "Poop, banama, poop, banama... cookie." He hates it when I try and sing children's songs to him so he decided to make up his own songs. Crazy kid.
- can jump. He started with little baby hops and now he is doing multiple big hops on the trampoline at MyGym. He also jumps off a platform into the ball pit at MyGym, and likes to jump off the couch onto the "Jumping Spot" (a big pile of couch cushions and pillows on the living room floor) at home.
- moved up in MyGym to the Terrific Tots. The ages are 2.5-3.5 but he seems to fit in really well. He is more than physically capable, but hopefully he learns and grows more on the social side. He actually said his name during circle time and showed great promise in his first class (probably because there were only 4 kids and he's much more comfortable in a smaller class setting).
- screams when he gets excited and covers his mouth in hopes of making it quieter so we'll let him do it. It is so piercing and it feels like my ears are bleeding. Let's hope this phase ends quickly, oiy.
- has to stand on the stool all the time. I'm not sure if it makes him feel taller or what but he loves standing on it at the kitchen table and wants to eat like that (which ends up being a bad idea most times)
- got a new kindle. The boys have had no interest in the Kindle up until lately and once one started playing, the other just HAD to have it, so we got another one. The new one has a protective case because Brett is a little out of control and doesn't think twice before just tossing it on the ground. It's already come in handy. The boys are both hooked on a game called ThinkRolls 2 which is a really cute puzzle game. Brett loves the easier levels but he's starting to get the hang of some of the trickier ones. Blake has beaten the game on the Easy setting and he can get pretty close on the Hard setting (which is for ages 5+). Heck, I liked the game so much I had to play it a few times myself.
- loves being surrounded by his stuffed animals. He has to have them all accounted for at night in his bed, and he has to grab all of them out in the morning and bring them into the living room or playroom with him. We recently built a fort out of a big cardboard box and they all have to be in there when Brett is in it. I call them his entourage.
- loves ring around the rosey. Blake started singing it one day and once Brett realized you got to fall down it was an instant winner. He'll get up in my face or Blake's face and say "ROSEY??" really loudly over and over until we play with him.
- is really talking a lot and he's even started saying little phrases that hears around the house like "be right back". Most mornings you can hear him order Chris around like this: "Daddy, kitchen, fruit pouch, get some." He also is very aware if he hears a baby crying in real life or on tv he'll say "bubby ky-in?" (baby cryin?) He heard Blake asking Chris and I to watch him do something so now Brett will say "Mommy watch-iss", and if he doesn't want to do something (like if he hears the word nap mentioned) he'll say "Brett either".
- knows all his colors except for purple. He always says it's blue so we'll see if he can tell them apart in the future.
- absolutely loves books. Before nap and bedtime, he always wants a huge pile of books read to him. If you ask him to grab a couple books to read to him he'll bring 3 arm fulls and say "lots of em". He actually sits still for them now and really enjoys the snuggle time I think.
This month Blake:
- uses this new, hilarious, nonchalant voice a lot. Instead of saying okay it sounds more like okeh. He has no idea how funny he sounds. I asked him why he started talking like that and he said, I just invented it. He invents all kinds of things apparently, lol.
- likes watching Blues Clues on Amazon. I guess he got tired of watching Julius Jr and he decided to check out Amazon on the Roku and that was the only kids show that was at the top, so he tried it out and was instantly hooked.
- started swimming lessons. We asked around and got a lot of good recommendations to a lady named JoAnn in Palm Harbor. She teaches private lessons at her own pool (1 hour a week) and Blake is really doing amazing! Last year he was terrified of the water and after 3 weeks of lessons he's even swam a little ways without any float! He loves swimming in his puddle jumper because it keeps his face out of the water, but he's also done great with the little floats that just go on your back (I think they look like small kick boards) and noodles with JoAnn. We found out that she is going to be retiring at the end of July after almost 40 years of teaching kids to swim (my timing is uncanny) so this will be shorter lived that we expected (sadface). Hopefully we can keep him in the water at our community pool throughout the year so he keeps learning more and getting more comfortable in the water.
- "You're going to be a good mommy when you grow up. (Me) Aren't I a mommy now? (Blake) No, you're a girl."
- loves adding art to his 3-ring binder book of art. I found my old 3-hole punch that I used back in middle school and he makes art, then punched holes in the paper, then adds them to the binder. Construction paper is too big to go on the rings so those get added to the folder pockets at the front and back. He is pretty proud of his "scrapbook".
- puts his clothes on except for socks and shoes (recently). He finally decided he wanted to start doing it, so he did. He has no interest in putting on socks and even though he used to put on his shoes, he doesn't want to put on his newest pair of shoes by himself. He'll put on his crocs by himself but not without a lot of fussing about how he can't get the strap out from under his foot.
- read his first 2 books from front to back! Every night before bed Chris reads him a couple story books and they read 1 or 2 easy reader books together. He worked really hard and was able to read his first book "How Many Fish". He's just gotten all the words in his second book as well so he can also read "Hop On Pop" (the smaller board book version but hopefully he'll get the bigger one soon too). Big props to Chris for helping him and keeping him excited about reading. Blake is really proud of himself and as he learns more words, he actually looks forward to reading his easy readers at night.
- taught himself how to do simple addition. Apparently he can add numbers like 4 + 5 and 2 + 2 + 3. Chris just stumbled across asking him in the car one day and he could totally do it. Neither of us officially taught him how but he uses his fingers to count and gets it right almost every time. We were shocked.

Hey mom!
I had to get a pic of this crepe myrtle for my mom since she loves them. It took a couple days of scouting the light to get it just right but I love this pic. I have been really into nature photography the past couple weeks.
I don't know what these trees are but they were in full bloom this month and they're so pretty! I'm guessing the people that live near it don't like it quite as much.
This one is so gorgeous in real life but it's hard to tell from the pic.
